Wedding Invites

I've been meaning to write this post for a while, but with my 25th birthday, going away for the weekend etc, things have been pretty busy around here!

Anyway, at the start of last week, we sent out our wedding invites! :) Liam made them (although he did buy in the flowers) and he did such a good job, I love them!

I obviously have too much time on my hands (!) as I got Liam to create a special invite for all the lovely Porridge and Parsnip readers! Not to actually attend the day sadly - we're over on numbers as it is! - but to invite you to join me in the roller coaster that is wedding planning!

You've probably already noticed that recently I've been talking about my upcoming wedding quite a lot. I even have a wedding tab underneath my blog header to keep all the wedding related posts organised! There are only 6.5 left weeks to go now until the big day (eek!!) and still lots of planning to do! I hope hearing about all the planning isn't too dull...I'm really looking forward to sharing the details of how the day went, and of course our time in Barcelona, once we get back from honeymoon too!

In the RSVP cards that Liam also made, we asked for guests to give details of any dietary requirements. But I'm afraid you will all probably have to read about all the food! (and indeed, I have already outlined our current food plans after meeting with the caterer). The RSVP also gave each guest the opportunity to request a song for the DJ to play in the evening. I thought it'd be fun to open this out to the blog!

So, any suggestions for songs we should ask the DJ to play at our reception? The more variety the better (within reason, don't want to freak out any of our grandparents!!) My sister's boyfriend has already said he doesn't want to spend the whole night dancing to soppy songs, so we need to get some other genres in there too!

PS. I'll be back tomorrow with a more food-orientated post - I'm so tired tonight that an early night/dozing on the sofa is needed!!

  1. I would say with the music it depends on the age of the people. Some good old cheesy songs always go down well (eg summer of 69, build me up buttercup, Dont stop me now, Grease songs! etc)-will the people like modern stuff like black eyed peas and stuff? You need some modern stuff I suppose, but just stuff that people know I would say. Slow songs are not easy to dance so and they tend to empty dance floors (at the weddings I have been to anyway) unless they are right at the end of the night.

  2. The ages range from one to eighty-three! Mostly mid-twenties and mid-fifties though. Some of the RSVPs requests we've had back so far have included Adele - Rolling in the Deep (from a teenager), Black Eyed Peas - Tonight's Gonna Be A Good Night (from one of Mum's friends), Lady GaGa - Born This Way (my Uncle) and Procol Harem - Whiter Shade of Pale (Mum's partner), so mainly modern...ish! The DJ will obviously play his own choices as well as our requests, but I think it's a fun way to get people involved :) agree slow songs not so good for crowd pleasers though. Still need to decide on song for our first dance as well...think we'll have difficulty agreeing on that one!! & will definitely add some cheesy songs to the list as well, thanks, used to love dancing to all the ones you mentioned when I was at uni!! :)

  4. Aww, thank you! :) He's doing a Graphic Design degree so couldn't not make them himself really...his friends wouldn't have let him live it down!! You can't properly tell from the photos but the text is printed onto tracing paper, with a piece of plain card tied to it underneath...I really like them :)
