Stressful Morning {Cake Needed}

Hello! I don't know about you, but I am definitely glad it's nearly the weekend!! This morning has been a little stressful for me!

I had a doctors appointment this morning as I have been having issues with my joints. I have flat feet and for the last month or so my feet have been hurting all the time - I go to bed at night with my feet throbbing just from a normal day's activities - and in the last week I have developed sciatica as well (which I haven't had since I was pregnant with Toby). So I booked an appointment with my doctor, and for some reason I had got it into my head that he was going to blame my weight/weigh me/discuss my diet etc so I was stressing out a bit. I'd forgotten that my doctor has a slightly abrupt way of dealing with things, so all he actually did was ask me to take my shoes off so he could see my feet, and then he immediately told me I should go see a podiatrist to get insoles fitted. Apparently the waiting time for an NHS appointment is 8 months (!!) so he recommended I book a private appointment instead, which I have done for next Friday.

After that I thought it would be a good idea to go to Waitrose for a little shopping. I've mentioned before that I'm not the most confident driver. I'm actually ok at driving but it is parking that I have issues with. Waitrose was really busy this morning and all "my" usual parking spaces (ie the ones I can get into easily) were full so I decided to try to park in one of the parent & child spaces. I had Toby with me and thought that the extra space might make it easier. Wrong. I somehow ended up right in the middle of two spaces, and after over 10 minutes and multiple attempts at reversing to try to correct myself, I gave up and drove front in to an awkward space. Shopping done I then tried to leave the car park. It was actually easier to leave than to get in - I only had to reverse 3 or 4 times - but I had at least 5 people, plus a dog who wasn't on a lead, all watching me. Urgh. That did not make it any easier especially as at one point the dog lurched towards the back of my car whilst I was (very slowly) reversing. Stress!!!

When I got home I quickly unloaded the shopping and then treated myself to coffee and cake...it was definitely needed!!

Mmmm, I've been wanting a cinnamon roll for ages, and after the stress of this morning I decided to treat myself to one in Waitrose. Plus, because of the aforementioned panic about being quizzed about my eating habits, I'd had a really light breakfast this morning so I was starving by this point!

So good. This helped relieve some of the tension in my shoulders, although I think that is more due to the fact that - in Liam's words - I drive like a little old lady hunched over the steering wheel - than due to any minor stress I've had this morning. I do realise that my "stress" is really insignificant compared to most peoples!!

Anyway, I'm trying to convince myself that the Waitrose trip was worth negotiating the car park for. I need to keep up my driving practise so it was worth it in that sense, and I also bought some tasty foods alongside the normal shopping.

Some interesting juices. When I used to make my own juices, I loved the ginger and carrot combination, and if the smoothie is as pink as I'm expecting it to be then Izzy will love it!

When I was younger, I used to easily get through a litre of juice every single day. I hardly ever buy it anymore, but still enjoy it as an occasional treat.

I also bought some Raw Health apple & cinnamon rolls. I've always liked the sound of these, but I've never been able to justify the price. Reduced though, I couldn't resist!

The box is slightly battered and they are use by the end of April...but I'm sure I'll have no problem with that!!

I also bought a wrap for an easy lunch. An expensive way of making lunch but again, nice for an occasional treat. I am normally better at avoiding the expensive pre-packaged products when I go to Waitrose, but I was still feeling a bit shaken up from the parking issues, so bought some extra bits to calm my nerves! Haha, that sounds pathetic even to me, but it's how I felt at the time!!

I ate this just before writing this post, and it was really tasty. The lentil mix was spicy but not too spicy, and it went really well with the spinach. Definitely one of the nicer pre-packaged sandwiches I've had in a while.

It's become a bit of a tradition for us to have pizza on Fridays, and luckily I remembered about it just as we were getting to checkouts. I always just write "something for dinner" on my list, but I inevitably then decide to get the rest of the shopping before making a decision, and then usually forget to go back. But today I remembered - two caramelised onion and feta pizzas (our absolute favourite - we always used to force ourselves to choose a second, different, flavour to try, but they were never as good so now we just get two of these) with some salad...

I'm sure I'll be glad that I don't have to do anything more than stick these in the oven when dinnertime rolls round tonight!

What little things stress you out? And how do you get over it?? Driving/parking is definitely the big one for me. I am getting better, but each time I get in the car I get a really bad headache just at the thought of parking when I get to my destination. The driving itself isn't too bad (although I'd prefer it if I were the only car on the roads!!) but I have rubbish spatial awareness so parking is always an issue. I've started driving Izzy to her swimming lessons every week, and by that time of day the car park is pretty empty so I don't have too much difficulty. On the way out of Waitrose this morning, it was mainly all the people standing watching me that stressed me out, although I don't have that excuse for when I parked in the first place...I don't know what went wrong there - no matter how many times I reversed, went forward, reversed again etc I could not get the car to be in one space rather than in the middle of two spaces!! Urgh, my heart is racing just thinking about it all again so I think I will finish writing now. Hopefully one day driving will be something that comes as naturally to me as it does to Liam, although I'm not convinced I'll ever stop feeling stressed about it!!

  1. Oh poor you- honestly when I started driving I was the same. Just after I passed (well, actually maybe 4/5 months later) I was roped into driving for a friends wedding as most of their friends still could not drive. Anyway, we had to park in a car park with posts by every space, and I got so panicky and made Andy and his friend get out- luckily my other friend who was with me was so calm and was telling me whoch way to steer. And once I got the hand brake stuck in a Morrisons car park- I was sat there for about 30 mins while some men in a van watched me- I got out the hand book and read it through as the car was not going anywhere (in the end I put my foot on the brake pedal- finally remembering what my instructor had said) and managed to drive away. And I used to stall all the time too! But honestly the more you practise the easier it gets. Now if people stare at me when I park I just think it must be because they are waiting to cross to get past, or something, not wondering what on earth I am doing! I still hate driving up steep hills and won't park on steep hills either, and driving somewhere new makes me nervous although I am better at that now. Normally I drive if we go out somewhere so Andy can have a drink, but I refuse to drive into London so for those times he has to stick to coke because the thought of that makes me stressed.
The cinnamon roll sounds like a very good idea indeed! We have ordered that pizza for Sunday- it is Andy's fave (I prefer the pepper and goats cheese one so to compromise we add a pepper on top of that one) and he will need it after doing a half marathon.
And 8 months wait! That is crazy! Hopefully your appointment next week will be useful.

    1. Oh no, your comment has made me panic more!!! Haha, not your fault obviously! We have to park on a hill (not a steep one, but still) and our hand brake is a bit stiff. Last time Liam got in the car after I'd parked it, he commented that I hadn't pulled the hand brake up enough... I really don't need to go and check that the car hasn't rolled down the hill do I??! I think I'm going to have to - I can feel a stress head ache coming along just worrying about it! Times like these I really wish we had a drive or at least lived on a road that you could park on - we have to park our car several streets away.

Back to your comment though, that wedding thing would have panicked me too. I really like having my sister in the car when I'm driving though - she has a calming influence which definitely does help.

Adding pepper to the pizza is a good idea. I love peppers on pizza, but the feta cheese swings that one as our favourite, it goes so lovely and gooey! :)

    2. Just to add - my panic isn't completely irrational. We park on the hill where my Mum's house is, and a month or so ago a van didn't put his handbrake on properly and his car rolled down the hill. "Luckily" (?!) the van crashed into my Mum's car, which then rolled into my car but the damage stopped there. His insurance company would've been really unhappy if the van had rolled all the way down the hill, scraping each car as it went!

Toby isn't keen on the idea of going out to check on the car though (he's just woken up from his nap in a grumpy mood!!), so I've asked Mum to have a look at it when she drives past in half an hour, and I'm going to try not to think about it in the meantime! Have to keep telling myself that this driving thing *is* worth it, and it *will* get better!

    3. Oh no I am so sorry about that! Didn't mean to make you worry! My hand brake is not very tight though- once I parked it at work, got out, then it started rolling backwards so I had to leap in and slam the wrong foot on the brake! Not good (but the front right wheel was on the kerb and the rest was on the ground so I think it was badly balanced)- and when I went to Bristol with my friends last summer the "car park space" was on the ramp of the car park and even with my wrenching it up with 2 hands, my car rolled backwards when I took my foot off. Sorry though!
But back to the driving thing, it really does get easier. I am a nervous person anyway, and even though my instructor always said he had so much confidence in me, I didn't have it in myself. Getting a sat-nav really helped because I am bad at map reading/reading signs as I drive, so would have to pull over so many times on journeys to work out where I was. Whereas now I am OK driving somewhere new if I have it because I know even if I go wrong it will recalculate and get me there in the end. So I think driving regularly will help (once I started work I had to drive every day) as in the end it becomes part of your routine. I am sure you car was OK! x

    4. No, it wasn't your fault! I asked Liam to go and check on it after work as it was parked near the bus stop he gets off at. He gave it a good shake (!!) to make sure it wasn't going anywhere & said it was parked fine. (He didn't have a car key on him or he would have checked properly rather than using the shaking method!) Our hand brake isn't particularly tight either - I quite often find myself rolling backwards slightly if I'm waiting on a hill at traffic lights etc, but hopefully this will make me more conscious of it now! :)

We have sat-nav too so I'll definitely use that if I go on longer journeys. At the moment I'm still at the stage of just driving to different places in our town, or occasionally to the sports centre half an hour away, but it's all good practise like you say. I'm feeling a lot calmer today so I can write this comment without panicking!!! :) x

    5. I like the "shake" method! I keep my foot on the foot brake on hills (although I do hill starts if I am parked on a hill or something, not sure why!)- I got into the habit of it after I rolled back (only a tiny amount) a few times. Glad you are feeling calmer (or were, when you replied)- the more you do it the easier it gets, and soon you will be popping into town and not giving it a thought.

  2. Thank goodness for the weekend is RIGHT! I'm lovin' the looks of that cinnamon bun ... the perfect pre-weekend treat!

Driving is SUCH A STRESS. I'm the same way. I get it from my mother, oh my goodness we're the same person when we hit the highway. I have a terrible habit of imagining scenarios and freaking myself out. I'm much better about it than I used to be, but I have to remember it's important to relax!

    1. I haven't ever been on a motorway yet but I'm sure that will make me freak out too! Luckily where I live there are lots and lots of old people who drive really really slowly (!) so I tend to drive slightly on the slower side at the start of each journey to ease my nerves a little. I am getting better the more I practise though, now it's just parking that stresses me out.

And yes, the cinnamon bun was delicious, just what I needed! :)

  3. The idea of being late makes me so edgy, I don't calm down until I've arrived somewhere. Early. Even the thought of being bang on time makes me nervous!

    1. I used to be like that too, always early for things. Liam (and his Mum too) are always late though, so between Liam and then getting the children ready we tend to be on time/running late for things which I don't like, but have kind of gotten used to. Not good though, I hate being late - so rude - so I much preferred it when I was always early for everything!

  4. Today, I went to the beach front with my children.
I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear."
She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!

the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get irked

You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people can take
